Austin Fashion Events – Early 2018

Through my adventures in the fashion world these past couple of years, I’ve come to learn that Austin has a thriving fashion scene. There are all sorts of fashion shows and events – you just need to find them.

If you’re in the area and looking for some local runways or networking events to attend early this year, here are a few options for you! I even threw in the big Fashion Week dates in February and March because they totally have live streams of some of the shows that are fun to watch.

Austin Fashion Initiative: AFI supports and promotes “the fashion industry in Austin through network uilding, entrepreneurship, innovations, and cross-sector collaboration.” If you’re really wanting to build your fashion network in Austin and grow, this awesome venture is one of the places to go. They also have events every now and then, so keep an eye out for any event listing!

  • Austin Fashion Initiative @ The Refinery: Get to see a cool creative coworking space in Austin and learn more about locally created Rank & Style‘s amazing top ten lists that help inspire what items might be in your next shopping haul.

Fashion X Austin: Fashion X Austin is celebrating it’s 10th anniversary this year and has a spectacular line up planned to celebrate it. I’ve listed a few of their shows this upcoming Spring 2018, all celebrating Texas designers and their absolutely inspiring lines! For a full schedule of events this year and tickets, please check out their website here.

  • Lone Star | February 2, 2018: This show celebrates 3-4 of the best designers in Texas! Yeehaw!
  • Fashion X Austin Live! | March 29, 2018: This show is a benefit for KLRU and kicks off the 10th annual Austin Fashion Week. Two major label fashion designers will be featured.
  • Austin Fashion Week Soirees | March 31 – April 4, 2018: If you want to go to some fun soirees for Fashion Week, this is the time to do it! You’ll get to see trunk shows, mini runways, designer showcases, and just a lot of fun things.
  • Fashion X Austin Runways |April 5 – 7, 2018: Each night will feature some of Austin’s most prominent local designers – and boy, are these runways a blast! I usually volunteer for these and everyone is usually beautifully dressed and a lot of fun. I highly recommend coming to see at least one of these shows.

Modelemi: This Waco-based modeling agency is having a benefit fashion show in February that you just need to check out and help support.

  • 65 Roses Fashion Show Benefitting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation | February 3, 2018: This wonderful show isn’t just for beautiful fashion – it’s to support a great cause and benefit the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. They will be honoring one of their own models that they lost to Cystic Fibrosis this year and featuring another of their models with the same disease.

Fashion Weeks: The “Big 4” Fashion Weeks are what every major fashionista dreams to one day attend (front row, of course). I’m not immune to their charms and just have to drool at all of the beautiful clothing that gets sported on the runways. If you’re eyeing a specific city for your fave designers, here’s when you should look out for them. A full schedule of events can be found on the Fashion Week website here.

  • New York Fashion Week | February 8 – 16, 2018
  • London Fashion Week | February 16 – 20, 2018
  • Milan Fashion Week | February 21 – 27, 2018
  • Paris Fashion Week | February 27 – March 6, 2018

Are you going to any fun fashion shows or events this spring? What’s your favorite event that you look forward to each year? Share and let me know in the comments down below! I’d love to learn if there are any other live streams that I should be looking out for.

6 Types of Glam Shoes to Wear This Christmas

If you’re still trying to figure out what glam shoes you need to match together with your Christmas dress (maybe inspired by some of our fave Instagrammers?), you’ve still got time to complete the look. Check out some of your favorite retail stores and see what they have in stock. Nordstrom has some that they can deliver to you by noon on Christmas eve to make sure that you are all fit and pretty for the big day.

To give you a bit of inspiration on what shoes will absolutely add a little sparkle to your outfit (some quite literally), I’ve rounded up a few of my favorite picks!

STEVE MADDEN Daisie Pointy-Toe Pump, $99.95

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 7.20.35 PM.png

These super sparkly pumps will absolutely glam up any outfit that you’ve prepared for Christmas. They will go with practically anything – and you’ll definitely stand out in these heels! Plus, they’re on Nordstrom’s list of products that can be delivered by Christmas Eve.

White House | Black Market Faux Pearl Ankle Booties, $100.00

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 7.31.12 PM.png

These ankle booties add a bit of glam without being overly dramatic. I love the pearl inlay on the chunky heels. They’re super chic and could be worn outside of any holiday events as well.

Imagine Vince Camuto Devin High Heel Satin Dress Sandals, $110.00

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 7.49.27 PM

So we’ve already touched on a bit of sparkly shoes, which is absolutely necessary for the glittery season. But if that’s a bit too much for you, then you can trade sparkles for metallic with this pair of Imagine Vince Camuto dress sandals. They come in a multitude of colors, but silver is almost another required look for the holidays. Plus, the design is just gorgeous.

Journee Collection Piper Ankle Pumps, $59.99

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 7.33.55 PM.png

If you’re wanting to add a subtle pop of color to your outfit without going too extreme, this gorgeous wine-colored pump is for you. The lattice design is absolutely to die for. Again, this is a heel that can be worn outside of the holiday season and events – so you’ll definitely get more than one use out of it.

Rockport Total Motion Violina Suede Double Strap Luxe Block Heel Mary Jane Pumps, $99.99

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 7.41.59 PM.png

While the name might be a tad bit long, these shoes need to be added to your collection! Every girl should own a pair of Mary Jane shoes – they’re a classic. I have a pair by Gianni Bini but couldn’t find them on the Dillard’s website for purchase. However, this pair of Mary Janes by Rockport is just as adorable and will pair well with plenty of outfits.

Sam Edelman Haide Feather Pompom Pump, $129.95

Screen Shot 2017-12-21 at 7.55.39 PM.png

Okay, so this last one requires the perfect outfit to accompany it, but I honestly think the pompom shoe trend is such a fun concept. If you want to stand out with your shoe option for Christmas this year, definitely opt for a pompom shoe like this one from Sam Edelman. You’ll definitely be the star of the night!

Shop Locally This Christmas at These 5 Austin Businesses

Christmas shopping can be hard, especially because of the large number of businesses out in the world to choose from. If you’re wanting to bring your shopping experience a little closer to home and support local businesses, I’ve rounded up find stores in the Austin area that you need to check out.

Cotone Clothing+ Beauty Bar

I absolutely love this local retail store. They sell clothing and jewelry both from local designers and Italian designers. The owner, Jentri, also has her own beauty line that she sells in store with a gorgeous collection of makeup. The sales team is super sweet and helpful every time I go in. And there’s also a gorgeous collection of tulle skirts – eventually I’ll have one of them hanging in my closet. Visit their website to shop online:

Passport Vintage

I just discovered Passport Vintage a month or two ago and I’ve been in love ever since. I got the cutest top from their store when it was located on the East Side (they’ve since relocated to SoCo). They’re also well known for their collection of jeans. You can’t go wrong with getting that fashion lover in your life a new pair of denim jeans to rock for the holidays. Visit their website for shopping.

Feathers Boutique

Vintage clothing is definitely fun to shop – and you can find a great selection of it over at Feathers Boutique. They’re reasonably priced and have really cute pieces on sell at their store. You can also get some online shopping done on their website:

Luxe Apothetique

This is another nice local store to visit – they have stylish clothes, a great beauty section, and just the most fun gifts collection as well. You can find a lot of great things here. They have two locations – one at the Domain and one on 2nd Street downtown. Check out their website at

Archive is another great local store that’s been nationally recognized. They’re a little out of my price range unfortunately, but for those of you who can afford it – it’s a great place to get some nice vintage clothes. You can get some shopping done on their website:

There’s obviously a lot more stores to shop in Austin, but these are some of the clothing stores that I highly recommend if you’re buying any new fun pieces for that fashionista in your life.

Have you found a new store that you want to visit? Do you have any other top stores in Austin that you recommend for Christmas shopping? Let me know in the comments down below!

Casual Outfits To Wear This Holiday Season

Today marks the twelfth day of Blogmas – we are practically halfway through the month and almost to Christmas! It’s going by so fast and I still have so much to do before the big day. Mostly lots of shopping and writing.

I did a photoshoot with a friend recently and wanted to share photos of some of the fun outfits I’ll be wearing this holiday season. While these aren’t my party outfits, they’re perfect for a day out and about on the town or for a more casual holiday get together.

The below denim dress is absolutely darling (and I especially love it because I got it for a steal since the store was closing). It’s comfortable and chic and, honestly, how can anyone go wrong with denim?

The second outfit is another fun combo that I just absolutely love. The maroon bodysuit is the perfect color for the season – a mixture of holiday fun and your favorite red wine. I don’t wear this one as often because it’s a little low cut, but all the lace really makes it unnoticeable.

On another note, today is also Inbetween Thoughts’s one-year anniversary (cue the confetti). The girls and I are super excited about how far we’ve come. There’s still a lot for us to do in terms of where we want to be, but for now we are just going to enjoy the successes as a result of the hard work we’ve put into the blog.  I’ll be posting a few videos on our Instagram account throughout the day and keep an eye out for a podcast in the near future.

Holiday Outfit Inspiration for All Your Festive Parties This Season

I’m a total fan of holiday outfits – the reds, the glam, the sparkles… There are so many fun pieces and outfit combinations other there that it makes it hard to see the same outfit over and over again on Instagram or Pinterest. In fact, a lot of my holiday inspiration comes from the outfits that these other brilliant fashionistas have put together.

Like, where can I get their wardrobes?

But, honestly, it’s hard to say that I have any favorite outfits that I’ve seen just because everyone looks so darling and put together and glamorous for the season. If you’re feeling a little low on inspiration and need some visuals to help you deciding your fabulous holiday outfits, here are 15 instagram looks that have inspired me this season.

10 Ugly Christmas Sweaters to Rock this Holiday Season

With the amount of impending holiday parties in the near future, you can bet one of them will require you to wear an ugly Christmas sweater. The uglier, the better. They’re honestly so fascinating. Even if they’re horrendous, they still look cute. The logic does not compute. I swear, they are probably made with some…

Why I Love The Austin Fashion Community

This past weekend, I volunteered with Fashion X at a benefit fashion show for Hurricane Harvey. The very idea was brilliant – fashion and charity mixed together to help out neighbors affected by the very tragic natural disaster.

The entire event was inspirational. The team literally had less than two weeks to find a venue, get with designers to show their lines, wrangle up some volunteers, and put together an event that should very well take much longer to organize.

In the end, over three hundred people attended the event and everything ran so smoothly. And there was a such a good atmosphere. It was wonderful seeing so many people come together so quickly for such a good reason, to mix passions with helping out our fellow humans.

Maybe I didn’t get to see the shows (thus, no pictures!), but it was truly a wonderful experience. I’m so happy that I was able to help out!

And also, just in general, it’s been amazing to see everyone come together to donate and support those affected by Hurricane Harvey. That’s what I call Texas Strong!

Weekend Shopping Adventures + Texas Bag

The outlet mall is always such a fantastic way to pass the time – even if you’re low on budget at the moment! You can work on getting in some steps for the day and just enjoy some time with family. Wear one of your favorite outfits just because.

Plus sales.

Come on, it’s shopping. We’re gonna think about clothes and purses and other fun things at some point while walking around, right?

This weekend I met up with my parents at the Round Rock Outlet Mall – one of our favorite haunts. While my dad worked on his daily step count, my mom and I walked around to some of our favorite stores.

It wasn’t a surprise that we visited White House | Black Market (remember, it’s one of my go to places to shop?). Some of the sales had an additional 60% off! My mom immediately found a top for me to try on. Needless to say, I fell in love with it. It’s simple and feminine – perfect for a nice summer day.

Our outlet adventure eventually brought us over to Michael Kors. I love their bags and clothing line, so walking around the store is always fun. But as we were going through, there was one display that made us stop to check it out.

Now, if there’s one thing you should know about Texans, it’s that we have a bit of state pride. So when I see something that mixes Texas and/or Austin with fashion, I go a bit heart eyed.

You can imagine what happened when my mom and I saw the below bag.

I’m super excited to wear mine around. It’s also super perfect for me because it’s just big enough to fit either a book or my writing notebook (maybe both!). It does come in a larger tote version as well.

We browsed through a few other stores, but didn’t get anything else. Our adventure finished up with some Rudy’s Bar-B-Q, making it a pretty perfect day.

Have any fun shopping adventures of your own lately? What are your hauls? Feel free to share and comment below!

Simple and Chic Cosplay

If you didn’t grow up watching Hayao Miyazaki movies, then I don’t know what kind of childhood you had and you were missing out on some really great shows.

This past Sunday, I went and saw Kiki’s Delivery Service, one of my fave childhood films. It’s about a young girl who just turned thirteen. But there’s something special about this age. She’s a witch and has to go away for a year to train. So she goes to a city by the ocean and starts a delivery business and has to learn to find her inspiration for what she does.

It’s a super cute movie. And you can bet I was excited to see it in an actual theater!

You can also bet that I dressed for the occasion. While I don’t have a purple dress like Kiki does, I threw on one of my Altar’d State dresses that I got last winter and added a red hair bow. Tie it together with some cute “Miss Witch” earrings that I just found at Hot Topic and I found the perfect costume that I can wear whenever I want.

Kiki’s delivery service involves her flying on a broom, so I just kind of had to grab mine to take a picture!

I used my new Ipsy makeup for my look with this outfit – simple and cute!
These earrings are just too cute!

All in all, I’ve decided that this is probably going to be my Halloween costume this year. I also remembered why I like this dress so much and that I need to wear it more often! The contrast between the purple and red is fantastic (go, Kiki!).

Any cute cosplay that you can wear on a normal basis? Feel free to share and comment below! I can’t wait to hear about your outfits.

Favorite Clothing Stores to Shop

One of the best things about fashion is that there are so many places to shop. The variety of styles and materials and quality – there’s literally no end to it.

Which, in retrospect, is probably one of the worst things about shopping. It can be so hard to find the perfect piece.

Navigating the mall, and, let’s be honest here, the entire internet can be just a little daunting. Okay, a lot daunting.

So what are some of the best places to go shopping? Where can I find the best pieces to go with my style?

  • Forever21If you’re looking for trendy but affordable clothes, Forever21 is the place to be. Sure, there’s more clothes in there than anyone could ever need aaand things can be all over the place, but I’ve grabbed quite a few things from there that just really add to my wardrobe.
  • Francesca’s: One of my new favorite places, Francesca’s is a cute boutique store that has super chic and trendy clothes. They’re a little more expensive than Forever21 but still affordable. And you will honestly be so happy just walking through the store!
  • Cato FashionsCato Fashions is another of my faves. They cater to women of any size and their sales section? Ah-mazing. I spent $60 a few weeks ago and got 9 tops, one dress, and a few pieces of jewelry. Their pieces are some of my favorite parts of my wardrobe.
  • White House | Black Market: This takes you up on the price scale, but you’re definitely getting what you are paying for. WHBM has great quality clothing, all super chic and modern. It’s a great location to buy your nice business suits or just your business casual clothes. And don’t forget to check the sales section – you can find some fantastic deals.
  • ModclothA new store that I’ve become interested in lately, Modcloth has an absolutely adorable line showcasing women’s vintage pieces. And honestly – they are a lifestyle blogger’s dream. They are a little pricey, but definitely worth it.
  • BCBG: Okay, so I can’t afford anything full price here (even though I’ve fallen in love with this gorgeous black lace pleated gown that I just found). But holy moly these clothes. They’re are super modern, super gorgeous. I honestly wish they made up most of my closet. And while the store is really out of budget, definitely check out their sales section (especially in Dilliards!).

So, I’m sure you can tell by now that I am definitely a bargain girl. And there’s nothing wrong with that. I love getting a great deal, like when I got a $200 cute white lace skirt from BCBG for $10 because that store location was closing (miracles do exist!). You can still get quality pieces and not drain your wallet in the process.

What are some of your favorite places to shop? Do any of these make your list? Feel free to share and comment below!
