5 Activities to Add to Your Austin Holiday Bucket List

Coming from a small town, it’s awesome to see all of the different festivities that go on around on the Austin area. There’s literally no limit to holiday celebrations and the feel-good atmosphere that comes along with Christmas.

If you’re trying to figure out what you need to do to celebrate the holidays, then here are a few places and activities in Austin to add to your bucket list this year.

The Nutcracker by Ballet Austin

The Nutcracker is an annual performance by Ballet Austin – it’s kind of a necessary thing to see at some point if you are in the Austin area. The show is absolutely stunning. The music and dancing are both beautiful and the outfits are exquisite. It’s running through December 23, so you still have time to grab tickets if you haven’t seen it yet.

Ice Skating on The Plaza at Whole Foods Market

There’s something about gliding on ice that makes me feel on top of the world. While things can be a little shaky at first (quite literally!), ice skating is a ton of fun and a must do. While Austin does have it’s own public ice rink, skating on the plaza at the Whole Foods Market roof is an experience that you can’t pass up. The rink is running through mid-January, so you still have plenty of time to check it out.

Winter Wonderland at the Circuit of the Americas

This is the first year that the Circuit of the Americas has had the Winter Wonderland at their location – and it looks like it is a ton of fun! General Admission is reasonably priced ($16) and includes things like a Tunnel of Lights, Movies on the Lawn, and a Petting Zoo. They also have a skating rink and a hot air balloon float, which is super exciting. Hopefully this becomes an annual thing.

Mozart’s Christmas Light Show

Mozart’s Coffee Roasters & Bakery is just a fun place to go in general, but the coffee shop and Austin favorite turns into a new place every Christmas. They boast over 1 million LED lights and have live choral singing throughout the evenings. It’s definitely an experience worth having. It runs through January 1.

Austin Trail of Lights

This is another Austin “Must Do.” The Austin Trail of Lights run December 9 – 23 and is the second largest event in the city. It has over 2 million lights (that’s a lot!) and is just full of beautiful displays that will make your eyes sparkle in joy. If you’re wanting to see something that will just leave you breathless, this is the place to go.

Honestly, these are just a few of the many amazing Christmas activities that Austin has to offer! Hopefully I’ve helped you find a new favorite – I know that each of these are things that need to be on every Austinite’s bucket list.

Do you have any favorite Christmas activities that you like to do? If you’re not in the Austin area, what are some fun things that go on in your city? I’d love to hear!
